BallUp, the annual celebration of sports and entertainment at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), lit up the campus on Saturday night with an electrifying mix of basketball, music, dance, comedy, and vibrant student energy.
Our Founder and Chancellor, Aare Afe Emmanuel Babalola, OFR, CON, SAN, hailed this year’s edition as the best yet, commending the creativity, coordination, and spirit that brought the event to life.
“There is a remarkable difference between last year’s event and this year’s,” he remarked. “I thank both students and staff for making the time to attend and be part of this celebration.”
He also used the occasion to appreciate Professor Edward Babalola, Director of Sports, for his tireless commitment and visionary leadership in making this year’s BallUp truly exceptional.
The fun-filled evening was graced by several distinguished personalities, including the sport-loving wife of the Founder and Mother of the University, Yeye Modupe Babalola, FSM, FNIMN, FFPA; Acting Chief Medical Director, ABUAD Multi-System Hospital, Dr. Akinwale Akinmade; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Christopher Aina; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Olasupo Ijabadeniyi; Registrar, Lady Christie Oluborode; University Librarian, Roselyn Subair and Bursar, Pastor Modupe Joseph Babalola.
Also, present were the Provost of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Abiodun Ojo; Provost of the College of Law, Prof. Tunde Yebisi; Provost College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Dr. Louis Odeigah; Dean of Students Prof Yinka Ajiboye; and former Head of Department (HoD), Law, Dr. Ife Bamidele.
Now in its sixth edition since its inception in 2019, BallUp continues to draw crowds of sports enthusiasts, especially basketball fans. This year featured competitive male and female basketball matches with teams from ABUAD and other institutions including Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), University of Ilorin, (UNILORIN) and Lead City University, Ibadan.
The energy throughout the event was electrifying from pulsating music curated by dynamic DJs to charismatic hype men energizing the crowd, and a thrilling performance by ABUAD’s very own music sensation- Oseremen Marvin, fondly called Mavo Kilogbede.
Every element was masterfully orchestrated to deliver an unforgettable experience complemented by cash prizes and culminating in an after-party at the Alfa Belgore Hall.
BallUp 6.0 was not just an event, it was a celebration of sports, the discovery of talents, team spirit, unity of purpose, youthful excellence, and brilliance.
