The Vice-Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Prof. E. Smaranda Olarinde, FCArb, FCAI, has described the Founder and Chancellor, Aare Afe Emmanuel Babalola, OFR, CON, SAN, as a profound source of inspiration and an enigmatic personality.
She made this remark on Friday, November 14, 2025, during the orientation programme organised for 100–300 level Part-Time students, noting that the Founder of ABUAD remains a proud example of self-learning and continuous education.
“Our revered Chancellor is who he is today because of the tireless studies he undertook through correspondence from London, which is equivalent to today’s part-time education. He was born in poverty; he knew poverty, but he overcame poverty through the power of education,” she said.
The renowned Professor of Law urged the students to cultivate diligence, discipline, and determination, stressing that education is the greatest weapon and gift for navigating life’s challenges.
While congratulating the students on joining the vibrant ABUAD family, she further advised them to seek mentors who can guide them in academic excellence and career development.
“You need mentorship, and not just from anyone you come across. For instance, Dr. Ife Ajepe here is a worthy role model. Choose someone of repute and adopt such a person as your role model,” Prof. Olarinde advised.
In her address, the Deputy Director, Directorate of Part-Time Studies, Dr. (Mrs.) Ife Ajepe, commended the Vice-Chancellor for attending the event despite her demanding schedule, describing her presence as another testament to her unwavering commitment to students.
“My Vice-Chancellor, ma’am, your presence here, despite the demands of your office, means a lot to us. We are delighted to have you physically present at this orientation programme for our 100–300 level students,” she said.
The event was well-attended by students and principal officers, lecturers and staff of the directorate.
