Afe Babalola University, Ado‑Ekiti (ABUAD), have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), solidifying the existing academic and research partnership between the two institutions.
The signing ceremony, held earlier this week at Loyalty Hall, NDA Headquarters in Kaduna, paving the way for a comprehensive framework for joint research, academic exchanges, co‑authored publications, student mobility programs and educational tours.
A powerful ABUAD delegation, led by Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Academic) Professor Christopher Aina on behalf of Vice‑Chancellor Professor E. Smaranda Olarinde, lauded the alliance as timely and impactful. Professor Aina emphasized its anticipated contributions to critical areas like peacebuilding, leadership training, and national security research. According to him:
“This partnership combines the strengths of a premier military institution with a leading private university, and it will undoubtedly produce far‑reaching benefits.”
In his remarks, the Commandant NDA, Major General AK Ibrahim, commended the MoU as “a pivotal step toward strengthening academic synergy,” aligning with the Academy’s values of innovation, excellence, and national service. He noted that the agreement “embodies our vision of becoming a world-class military university that contributes meaningfully to national development through strategic partnerships.”
Earlier, the delegation visited the Martin Luther Agwai Center for Peacekeeping in Jaji, Kaduna State, and was received by the management team led by Major-General T. Adedoja, who called for a sustained relationship. “Be expecting us. As we will be coming on a working visit to your institution soon for us to deepen and strengthen this relationship” Major-General Adedoja spoke reassuringly.
Other members of ABUAD’s delegation included the Registrar, Lady Christie Oluborode; the former Head of Department of Conflict, Peace, and Strategic Studies and UNESCO Co-Chair, Prof. OBA Oyinloye; and Executive Assistant to the Founder, Mr. Rotimi Opeyeoluwa. This collaboration aims to enhance knowledge exchange, particularly in strategic and defense studies, while fostering national development through joint academic activities.
